Saanich Gorge Park

Location

About

  • This park is alongside the Gorge Waterway in Saanich

  • On the east side of the park you’ll find a community garden

  • Beside the park is the Tillicum Road bridge and under it you can see the reverse falls

  • The Victoria Harbour Ferry has a dock/stop nearby

  • In 1912, a two-story bathing pavilion was built, known as the Free

  • Located opposite the reversing falls, it had a sun-deck, springboards, freshwater showers and the added excitement of leaping from the bridge into the rushing water below

  • In 1966 Saanich purchased the park from the City of Victoria and by then the Free had burnt down (source)

  • When visiting the park, you’ll see an assortment of animals in the Gorge including seals, herons, gulls and ducks
