In 1903 the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association purchased land at Harling Point and established the Chinese Cemetery
-
Previous to 1937, it was a sanctuary of temporary repose before final interment in China but after the Sino-Japanese war, remains couldn’t be shipped back to China
-
In 1961, the remains of 849 Chinese pioneers were laid to rest at Harling Point and the cemetery became a memorial site

In 1994 the cemetery was designated as a National Historic Site by the Government of Canada

Several paths run through the space, there is a large alter usually adorned with flowers and a few benches to sit on and admire the views of the Olympic mountains
