Francis King Regional Park

Location

About

  • This park is a regional conservation area, is 107 hectares, was established in 1979 and has 11km of forest trails

  • Indigenous Peoples used to gather and use camas, salal, horsetail and licorice fern in the area that the park now occupies

  • James Francis purchased property on the east side of Munn Road in the 1840s and the property on the west side was named Freeman King Park after an early conservationist and naturalist

  • The Elsie King Trail has a cedar boardwalk that is wheelchair accessible and features a great ‘Instagramable’ spot with a tree bent right over the trail (800 metre loop that also includes smooth gravel paths)

  • Elsie King was a notable leader in the Victoria Girl Guides and was married to Freeman King

  • The Heritage Grove area contains trails alongside 500-year-old Douglas Fir trees

  • There are other trails in the park that connect to Thetis Lake

  • The park also boasts a nature centre where you can learn about the park’s history
