Born in Finland in 1859, Victor Jacobson came to Canada in the 1880s

The captain was a sealer and made several trips to the Bering Sea in 1884 and 1885

In 1897, Captain Jacobson had a house built next to where the park is today

By this time, he was a well-established sea captain, owner of several vessels, and his wife Minnie would watch for the return of the fleet from the house (source)
